The ecbi Training and Support Programme and IIED organised a Pre-COP Training Workshop for LDC negotiators at the Los Girasoles Hotel in Lima, Peru, on 30 November 2014, in advance of the 20th Conference of Parties (COP20) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The full-day Workshop, attended by over 20 LDC negotiators who are new to the climate negotiations, sought to provide participants with a roadmap to navigate the complex, but crucial, two weeks of the COP. It included presentations on the science and history of the climate negotiations; history of the LDC Group; COP terminology and processes; and an item-by-item exploration of issues on the COP20 agenda that are likely to be of key importance to the LDC Group. Addressing the opening session, Krishna Chandra Paudel, Secretary, Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, Nepal, and current Chair of the LDC Group, noted the important role of the ecbi in capacity building for LDC negotiators. Participants rated the meeting as extremely useful in their feedback comments. "It has been very, or should I say extremely, helpful in bringing light on all the issues of this COP," wrote one participant. "The meeting was informative and eye opener to me," another participant wrote. "I have acquired the knowledge I needed to go through COP 20."
